Position Overview:
As the lead Geospatial Systems Architect, you will coordinate the governance, enhancement, and implementation of the enterprise architecture for a portfolio of wildfire management systems and datasets. This role blends hands-on system analysis with strategic oversight, allowing you to shape the future of the geospatial solutions used by federal, state, and local agencies to manage wildfire prevention, mitigation, suppression, and rehabilitation. The ideal candidate will have expertise in geospatial data and solutions leveraging ESRI GIS products, AWS cloud technologies, and open-source tools. The ability to drive progress across a broad and varied stakeholder community is also essential.

Responsibilities:
Refine and apply the wildfire management information technology enterprise architecture to promote effective and coordinated evolution of component systems and datasets

Collaborate with system owners, development teams, application users, and other stakeholders to plan and coordinate governance, enhancement, and implementation of the architecture

Identify and assess existing capabilities, system architectures, unmet requirements, technical challenges, data standards, emerging technologies, reusable assets, and best-practices to identify and prioritize needed changes to the enterprise architecture and component systems

Investigate complex technical and programmatic issues

Conceptualize, recommend, and promote practical architectural solutions to technical challenges and business needs, leveraging deep expertise in geospatial data, GIS, and data analytics

Assess proposed solutions/investments to align system strategies and plans with mission goals, objectives, and strategies

Communicate geospatial product visions/roadmaps, release plans, product/sprint backlogs, and other agile products to promote coordination of individual system plans

Facilitate change management through communication and coordination during product development and deployment using product visions, roadmaps, release plans, backlogs, and other agile process artifacts

Assist with information systems security data collection, documentation, and management
Support continuous management and improvement of the enterprise architecture

Develop policies and guidance for planning, implementation, and evaluation of geospatial systems

Advise government leadership regarding the governance, development, and implementation processes as well as specific proposed changes to the enterprise architecture and component systems

Promote standardization to achieve efficient exchange of spatial data between authoritative sources and consumers
Qualifications - Required:

Bachelor's degree in software engineering, data science, or relevant field

10+ years of IT experience

5+ years of experience in system architecture, including first-person, hands-on experience with geospatial data and systems including ESRI ArcGIS products

Current architectural certification in cloud services (e.g. AWS Solutions Architect Professional)

Strong organizational, computer, and communication skills, including intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, SharePoint, and Office 365)

Strong project and task management skills, with experience working with multiple stakeholders across various organizations

Authorization to work in the U.S.

Ability to obtain and maintain the required Public Trust Clearance for this role.
Qualifications - Highly Desired:

Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Geography, Geospatial Information Science, Data Science, or a related field

AWS Solutions Architect Professional certification

Current GIS industry certification such as ESRI Enterprise System Design Professional

Expert knowledge of enterprise system development using contemporary tools

Knowledge and/or experience with wildand fire community and related tools (e.g. IRWIN, IFTDSS, WFDSS, LANDFIRE, and NIFC Open Data initiative)

Experience with big data technologies and frameworks, such as Apache Spark or Hadoop
Compensation:

$123k to $141k/year depending on capability and experience
